ATOM SELECT STARS WIN 2006 ALLIANCE PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Atom Select Stars sponsored by Philthy McNasty’s followed up their recent tournament win in Indiana by winning the Alliance Select Championship in Waterloo. The championship featured select teams from Ontario with the Stars representing BLOMHA in great fashion by winning the championship game 3-2 over St Catharine's. In a very close affair, the Stars were down 2-0 with less than six minutes left and then exploded for 3 goals in less than four minutes to take the lead with a minute left. Goal scorers were Danny McIsaac, Bryce Dimitroff, and Michael Rutherford with Andrew Hart playing great in net to give the Stars a chance to win it in the third period.
The Stars went 5-0 in the championship tournament with round robin wins over Scott Park, St. Catharines and Woodstock. The Stars won the semi-final game with a tight 1-0 win over Fort Erie with Brad Hopgood earning the shutout with stellar net minding.
This capped off an incredible season for the Atom Stars with four tournament victories and a 21-1 record in their five tournaments. They also finished with a 27-2 record in non-tournament games.
Members of the team include Michael Rutherford, Owen Zerr, Kurtis Laporte, Connor Majaina, Terin Dhadda, Karl Cizek, Mitchell Shewchuk, Kyle Hurst, Andrew Patterson, Bryce Dimitroff, Alex Untersberger, Kosta Parojcic, Josh Giovino, Ricky Hill, Adam Desjardins, Brad Hopgood, and Andrew Hart. The Stars are coached by Jeff Hurst, Phil Zerr, Mike Whittaker, Rick Laporte and Gorm Dhadda. |
