THE NATIONAL COACH MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
The National Coach Mentorship Program (NCMP) is an educational program developed to ensure the mentoring of recreational, developmental and high performance coaches so they obtain the necessary skills to become effective teachers, leaders, and organizers. Coaches, officials, parents, and more importantly, the players all benefit from the NCMP. The program offers mentor coach training and certification at the volunteer and professional levels of the program.
The implementation of this program in BLOMHA assists in the development of new and returning coaches. It is important to understand that the program is not designed to tell anyone how to coach. The task of the approved coach mentors is to supplement, nurture and facilitate the development of coaches "who seek" to be the best they can be at this rewarding, challenging, and quite often overwhelming position. The time has come for those who want to coach to be given the tools, skills, knowledge and support to be able to handle the highs and lows connected with coaching. We can achieve this through mentoring.
In summary, mentoring is a formalized development process involving someone with more experience, a mentor, who is able to help guide less experienced individuals. A well-designed mentoring program offers rewards for all involved – the mentor, the coach, the organization, and most importantly, the players.
