Q How do I become a BLOMHA referee?

A Pick up a referee application at the BLOMHA office. It is best to submit it during the summer. You must be at least 14 years old to apply. If you are 19 years of age or older, or will be 19 years old during the upcoming season, you must apply for a vulnerable sector policescreening certificate at the Blomha office at the time of submitting your application.

You will be contacted by someone from the officiating committee prior to September regarding your application.

Q How often are General Meetings held and why are they held?

A General Meetings are held twice during each season. Once at the end of November, at which the Audited Financial Report from the previous year is presented to the Members, and once in March. These meetings are held to get feedback from Members on the programs to date. How ever you do not have to wait for a meeting to address your concerns. This can be done at any time by contact the Blomha office or by contacting a Director.

Q Who is considered a Member of the Association?

A Members of the Association are all Officers and Directors; all Standing Committee Chairpersons, Convenors and Assistants; all past Presidents; one Team Official from each team – being the Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Trainer or Manager; one parent from each team who has been elected by the parents on the team to represent them. (This person's name must be known to the office by December 1 of each season. The elected person shall have no other involvement with that team, i.e. Assistant Coach, Manager or Trainer.) All other individuals are not Members of the Association, and as such, have no voting rights or privileges within BLOMHA.

Q When is the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held and who can attend and vote at this meeting?

A The Annual General Meeting is held in June of each year. All of the above Members are entitled to vote at the AGM. Proposed changes to the Constitution and By-Laws are presented to the Members along with a slate of individuals running for office and are available at the office two weeks prior to the Annual General Meeting.

Q Who do I send compliments or concerns to at BLOMHA?

A We really do appreciate hearing good things, whether it’s about a particular experience with a volunteer, at a BLOMHA clinic or any positive feedback you have about our Association. You can email your comments to one of the office staff at the office who in turn will pass the information onto the appropriate Blomha individual.

Q Why is there ice for sale during the season?

A Prior to each season, and long before we know how many participants we will have in the program, BLOMHA must commit to purchasing a certain amount of ice in order to ensure we can meet the enrolment demands of our programs.

Generally ice becomes available for sale when teams enter tournaments or other special events take teams away from their regularly scheduled ice time.

Q How do I know if my child has a concussion?

A Download this PDF of Concussion Guidelines.
